Western Decor - Rug Choices

Western decor rug choices can include southwestern style rugs, animal skin designs, solid color area rugs and even contemporary designs. The Skyways area rug, shown left, features a contemporary look in colors that blend well with typical western furnishings and fabrics including leather, denims and heavy woven fabrics. Consider some contrast when you are selecting a rug. If you have dark floors consider a rug that is lighter in color or has areas of light color in the design. Western decor can get mired in neutral browns, try adding an area rug that will bring in a bit of color. Turquoise is a wonderful color to bring in with browns, and you can add just a few touches around the room to keep your decor from becoming too blah!

Add Charm to Your Cabin Decor with Wreaths

Wreaths can add so much warmth and color to your home in the fall and winter season. The colors of autumn leaves and berries go so well with the colors of leather and earthy tones of rustic decor. Our wreaths are handmade when ordered and should be ordered now in time for the fall holiday season. Many of our handsome wreaths are wonderfully appropriate for both the fall and winter holidays and can adorn your door, wall or table decor right through until early spring. Our majestic Holiday wreath (shown left) is an example of a wreath that would be right at home for Thanksgiving and Christmas both.

A wreath on the wall and a wooden bowl or old basket of pinecones, berries and some dried oranges for color and a grouping of assorted sized candles and holders makes for a wonderfully rustic holiday setting in your dining room.

Many of our wreaths are offered in varying sizes so don't be shy about having a beautifully large wreath on your front door with the same design scattered about your home in smaller sizes, on the wall, around a hurricane candle glass, around a bowl on the table. Let your imagination go! We also offer many styles of tabletop baskets to match many of our designs.

Western Decorating Tips For A Ranch Style Front Porch

It's the season to enjoy the front porch on your western ranch and we've got some tips on how to add finishing touches with western decor. Make sure you have a western style door knocker to greet your guests, one example is our steer skull doorknocker shown above right, and that the size is large enough to make a statement on your front door. Don't add a little doorknocker to a large door. Adding a matching doorbell ringer is an exceptional finishing touch.

Add pillows with a western theme to porch chairs. Use denim or a solid color weatherproof fabric cushions and add a few throw pillows for color and theme. Add some matching throws to make a chilly evening comfortable.

An outdoor clock or thermometer with a rustic look is both functional and decorative.Add an outdoor rug, there are some very attractive ones on the market today. Add candle lighting for ambiance, display them with some potted plants

Bring Cabin Decor to Your Garden

If you love cabin style decorating, you can add some cabin charm to your garden this summer. When designing your garden think about the kinds of plants and shrubs that grow near lakes. Create a garden area that has an unstructured look using tall grasses. If you have a wet area you may be able to grow some handsome cattails.

Evergreens are also common in lakeside areas. Ferns make a great addition if you have some shade in your garden area. Add a variety of hardy hostas to fill in empty spaces.

To complete the look add one or two of the following, a rustic looking birdbath or sundial, a weathervane ornamented with ducks or other lakeside cabin theme on a garden stake made specifically for weathervanes, a decorative metal bench or wooden chairs painted a soft green or brown to complete your lakeside cabin garden, twinkling tealights in decorative metal hangers.

Be creative, we've seen some wonderful gardens with plantings in old rowboats and canoes. Think outside the box for a garden that is wonderfully unique.

Kids Camo - Some Cute Ideas

I'm sitting here with a cup of coffee this morning thinking over the items I have added to Lights in the Northern Sky this week. As I was putting on our collection of camo crib bedding, under the category Children's Decor yesterday, I was thinking how much fun that bedding would be for little kids with their teddy bears and other "wild animals". Not only does it have a real (obviously) outdoorsy look for a rustic home but what a great backdrop for a collection of stuffed animals and would be a great fit to add a fake bear rug to the floor.

This great bedding is not only very very affordable, but as your child grows, you can keep the draperies from this collection and other decor and just replace the crib bedding with twin bedding and voila! And the bright pink design is cute for little girls, switch up a brown fake bear rug with a white fake polar bear rug or light beige bear rug and add some light beige or white and pink stuffed animals and you've got a wonderful room for a little girl.
